Gilgit-Baltistan Elections 2026 A Puppet Show
Gilgit-Baltistan Elections a Puppet Show
Gilgit-Baltistan, a unit of the Pakistan-administered state of Jammu and Kashmir, is going to hold elections to the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly on June 7 , 2026 under the Pakistan Legal Framework Order, 2018. This election is a puppet show through which the government of Pakistan has to choose facilitators in the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly for itself. In order to keep the unconstitutional and undemocratic colonial system in place, the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly has no legislative powers and is not an Azad Kashmir-style state assembly. So that it is considered a provincial-style structure, by name it is called Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly.
Elections to the Gilgit-Baltistan Assembly are held every five years, through these elections the people have to elect representatives for themselves. It's an obvious thing in fact, through these elections, every time the political party in power in Islamabad chooses a puppet for itself. So that he can enjoy the natural resources of Gilgit-Baltistan by giving up his power. Gilgit-Baltistan's elections are always brought into existence through scheduled and electoral rigging, for which strategies are set before the elections, national and local parties of Gilgit-Baltistan are not allowed to participate in these elections because only political parties registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan are allowed to go to the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan. Because Gilgit-Baltistan is not a constitutional part of Pakistan, no party of Gilgit-Baltistan can be legally registered with the Election Commission of Pakistan, so the national parties of Gilgit-Baltistan have to be known as independent candidates in the election, it means that even if the nationalist of Gilgit-Baltistan wins all the seats of Gilgit-Baltistan, they will have to join a party of Pakistan to form the government, because the national and local people of Gilgit-Baltistan do not have the authority to form their government.
In order to keep the national parties of Gilgit-Baltistan out of the elections, all the active and contesting leaders here have to announce the elections. Those arrested include Awami Action Committee chairman Ehsan Ali Advocate, Balawaristan National Front president Muhammad Nafees Advocate, Gilgit-Baltistan United Movement chief Shabir Hussain Mayar, Karakoram National Movement leaders Taaruf Abbas Advocate, Abrar Ali Bagroo, Babar Hussain and JKLF leader Nusrat Hussain. All the leaders who participated in the election all of them are in jail, while the Balawaristan National Front's supreme leader Nawaz Khan Naji is contesting the election as an independent candidate.
Four leaders of the progressive Awami Workers Party are contesting the election.
The election process and environment in Gilgit-Baltistan every year is arranged by the government of Pakistan according to its objectives, the most shameful thing is that there are distribution mechanisms between the political parties of Islamabad for government formation in Gilgit-Baltistan, which is the government in power in Islamabad. She also formed her own government in Gilgit-Baltistan, when the Pakistan People's Party was in power in Islamabad.
The PPP formed the government in Gilgit-Baltistan when the PML-N was in power. The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) formed the government. Under the leadership of Imran Khan. The PTI government was formed here, when Imran Khan was removed from Pakistan, the PTI government was removed from Gilgit-Baltistan, at that time there is a coalition government in Islamabad so a coalition government will be excepted to form in Gilgit-Baltistan because the principle of divide and rule is already established in Gilgit-Baltistan.
In Gilgit-Baltistan, on the one hand, local and national parties are banned from participating in elections and campaigning, on the other hand, all political and religious parties of Pakistan have the freedom to come here and do political activities. Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders Nawaz Sharif, Maryam Nawaz and Amir Maqbool are campaigning here, Pakistan Peoples Party Chairman Bilawal Bhutto and Asifa Zardari are scheduled to campaign. While Qamar Zaman Kaira, Nair Bukhari, etc. have been camping for several months, this year the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf has not been allowed to participate in the election from Gilgit-Baltistan, but the Istehkam Pakistan Party has been launched as an alternative. Among the religious parties Majlis-e-Wahdat Muslimeen, Tehreek-e-Islami and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam are also participating in the election in full swing. Looking at the political activities so far and the list of hopefuls, it can be estimated that a coalition government will be formed in Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) 6, Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) 4, Istehkam Pakistan Party 4, PTI Supporters and Independents 7, Unity Muslimin, Tehreek-e-Islami, and Jamit Islam can take one seat each. There are high chances of the formation of the PML-N government.
